Plain clothes detectives were joined by general duties police and highway patrol units as they searched the park and near by streets.
Police wasted no time searching, quickly moving onto nearby Cathedral School after eye witnesses told police they saw the teenager running through the playground before continuing up William Street near The Oxford Hotel.
Inspector Gerard Powell from Chifley local area command said the escapee remained at large at 5pm.

EARLIER: Police are canvassing the Bathurst CBD searching for a teenager who escaped custody at the court house this afternoon.
General duties, plain clothed detectives and highway patrol police descended on Machattie Park just after 3.30pm, searching for the teenager who has yet to be found.
It’s believed he had also been sighted in Piper Street.
