IT’S with some sadness that I write this column for the final time, as after a little over 10 years I am leaving 2MCE this week.

My time here has been interesting to say the least, meeting many, many wonderful people, among them listeners, our volunteer presenters, sponsors, business owners and a vast array of students and staff from Charles Sturt University.
The students have been great and certainly keep you young and on your toes. The 2MCE presenters do a great job and many are extremely dedicated in what they do and put in many hours of preparation in getting their programs to air.
While not singling any one out, I must however give mention to a wonderful man who I have missed terribly since his passing several years ago in Bob Dengate.
Bob was a broadcaster’s broadcaster, a clever and entertaining presenter, always free with his time to give advice to others and assist them with problems or in preparing for a program.
He also dedicated considerable time as an active board member, trainer of new broadcasters and had an amazing knowledge base and was a great sounding board for me in the early days.
Rhonda Hill in administration and reception has always been the person I could go to in finding historical information while Adam Thompson as the production assistant has amazing computer and technical skills and has kept us on air when it appeared all was lost at times.
Rod Bloomfield and the local and National (NRN) news teams have done a great job in providing regular daily news updates under difficult circumstances on occasions. Rod is also leaving this week and I wish him well in his new venture.
My thanks also go to technical officer Gary Sweetnam and other support staff across the university and, of course, to CSU for the great support of the station.
In my time here I am extremely proud of what we have achieved, with the National Radio News Service in particular providing daily national and international news Australia wide 365 days a year with a very limited but dedicated staff that has been recognised by a major recent funding announcement from the Federal Government.
The addition of many new 2MCE programs over the years has been ongoing with a particular mention of Cool Climate Living which has proved extremely popular, while old favourites like Saturday Night Jukebox continue to gain support.
Thank you to everyone for your support and friendship and a big thanks to the Western Advocate for providing weekly space for the Tuned In column over the years.
Here’s hoping 2MCE continues to grow into the future.
