RATEPAYERS continue to have their “two bobs’ worth” regarding the new Bathurst logo – mostly negative, I might add.

I hear the only sector pleased with the design are printers and signwriters who are rubbing their hands together as the multi-colour spectrum logo will be the most expensive to create as opposed to a two or three-colour print run.
The most baffling factor regarding this allegedly three-year process to determine a new logo is that Bathurst Regional Council has a Tourism Reference Group [who are unelected and whose identities remain a mystery to the majority at large – along are their qualifications] that has made a decision at ratepayers’ expense but our elected representatives were not given the opportunity to vote on the proposal.
Work that out.
Liqui Moly extends naming rights deal for the 12 Hour
IN great news for the Bathurst 12 Hour, naming rights sponsor Liqui Moly has signed on for another five years.
The sponsorship deal includes naming rights for the overbridge near Rydges Motel and Murray's Corner.
The 2018 Bathurst 12 Hour is shaping up to be the best yet with more than 40 cars nominated well before closing.
Hopefully we will see a grid of more than 60 cars takes on the Mountain in early February 2018. Even better, over 70.
Still no word on council’s river walkway blowout
BATHURST Regional Council’s long held “say nothing” policy until everyone has forgotten continues in regard to controversial decisions.
For instance, council has not as yet explained why the tender to fix the washaway on the river walk has blown out from $129,000 to almost $500,000.
That’s almost four times the original estimate, yet ratepayers have been given no explanation why.
Follow Canberra’s lead and cull the kangaroos
THE kangaroo management debate on Mount Panorama continues with newby Greens Councilor John Fry stating that ‘roo management on the Mount is different to the rest of the region due to possible brand damage - despite leading ecologists supporting “humanely culling” kangaroos as the most practical solution to the issue.
A kangaroo cull is hardly unheard of as a management strategy – even the ACT Government conducts an annual cull of around 4000 kangaroos to keep on top of the problem in their area.
Unlike the ACT Government, though, Bathurst Regional Council has “managed by avoidance”, ably assisting the increasing local kangaroo population growth.
May I beg the question: “What will be the brand damage if indeed a motorsport participant lost their life during an event on Mount Panorama as a result of this lack of leadership?”
Thumbs up
LIQUI Moly extending their naming rights deal with the Bathurst 12 Hour. Sponsor stability is a great tick of confidence.
Thumbs down
ELECTED councillors not being voting on the rebranding of the Bathurst logo. Instead, the decision was made by an unelected tourism reference group.
