The arrival of spring weather brings with it bright sunshine, blooming flowers and unfortunately, pests. From termites and spiders, to cockroaches and mice, pests cannot only be a hassle around the home but can cause significant damage and end up costing you financially.

While simple checks can be done around the home to help detect any problems, pest management is more than simply checking for bugs. Quite often the problem isn’t noticeable or found until it is too late and damage has occurred, which is why prevention is a much better alternative to treatment.

The family home is one of the biggest investments people make in their lives, so it is sensible to protect it with an annual pest check-up – and stop problems before they start.

For anyone buying or living in their own home it’s important to have regular inspections done, especially when it comes to termites. While tiny themselves, large colonies can cause significant cosmetic and structural damage to your home.

Australian standards recommend inspections should be done on a 6- to 12-month cycle with high risk areas as often as every three months.

Pest inspections and treatments shouldn’t just be limited to buildings. Your garden and trees are all natural environments and nesting areas for termites, ants and other pests.

Careful checks of garden beds and plants is vital, but remember while trees may look healthy on the outside, they may have internal infestations which is why professionals are required.

Stop them in their tracks

  • Be mindful of pest activity in your home.
  • Use a pest control service and get regular inspections.
  • Block bug and pest entry ways to your home.
  • Maintain your yard and remove any unwanted vegetation.
  • Ensure food scraps and waste are put in external bins.
  • Keep underneath your home clean, dry and free from untreated wood.
  • Monitor for large numbers of pests in any one area.
  • Check pets who constantly scratch or bite for any fleas, mites or ticks.
