The program provides a subsidise cost for the desexing of cats and dogs, with the cost of microchipping included.
Vaccinations are also included but for dogs only.
Bathurst Veterinary Hospital practice manager Michelle Edwards said the program will benefit pet owners.
“It helps prevent unwanted litters, which eventually leads to unwanted strays,” she said.
“The program also provides microchips, to help identified lost pets.
“Dogs also receive vaccinations, which mainly helps prevent the parvovirus. It’s an intestinal disease that make dogs unwell.”
The hospital performs around three desexing operations a day and up to 15 a week.
Both the Bathurst Regional Council and the RSPCA partner together to provide two programs a year.
To book at the Bathurst Veterinary Hospital, call 6332 5800.
Bookings can also be placed at Stewart Street Veterinary Hospital, Durham Street Veterinary Clinic and Dr Tom’s Veterinary Practice.
Costs are $50 to $65 for dogs and $35 to $50 for cats.
