THE exclusive private garden at Mayfield Garden will be the venue for an inaugural event devised by the Mitchell Conservatorium.

The Spring Sound Festival will combine the beauty of Mayfield Garden with classical music performed by a variety of acts.

On the program for the festival is the Chamber Music Academy, Bathurst Chamber Orchestra, Mitchell Quartet, SOQ, the Jason Thornton Three and the Metropolitan Orchestra.

Publicity officer Lauren Plenderleith said it was an exciting time for both Mitchell Conservatorium and Mayfield Garden.

“Mitchell Conservatorium is always very excited to bring different musical events to Bathurst and this is the first in a collaborative series of events we are running with Mayfield Garden,” she said.

Patrons are invited to wander Mayfield Garden at their leisure throughout the morning and early afternoon before converging at the private garden’s amphitheatre at 2pm for the musical entertainment.

The private garden only hosts four events a year, making this festival a very rare chance to step inside the area and enjoy it.

“We’re very lucky they are selecting us to perform in that beautiful grassed area of the amphitheatre,” Ms Plenderleith said.

As for the music, she said it will cover everything from Vivaldi to Coldplay’s more modern Viva La Vida.

“It is basically classical music with a fusion of modern sound,” Ms Plenderleith said.

To assist in the enjoyment of the event, Mayfield Garden will be producing gourmet picnic baskets full of items made from locally sourced produce.

These can be ordered for $25.

While people are welcome to drive to Mayfield Garden, there will be a bus transfer from Bathurst in operation on the day to help people get to and from the venue.

Tickets to the Spring Sound Festival can be purchased from the Mitchell Conservatorium or Mayfield Garden
