Results from the postal survey were announced on Wednesday, with 61.6 per cent of the country ticking the yes box.
While the result was non-binding and the bill yet to be passed by parliament, early predictions are the Marriage Act may be changed by Christmas.
Abercrombie House owner Christopher Morgan was among those to welcome the decision.
“It’s fabulous news and a demonstration that we live in a secular society and it must take precedence over every other consideration,” he said.
“We absolutely welcome any weddings for any couple who love each other.”
Rydges Mount Panorama sales and marketing manager Domino Houlbrook-Cove said she expects this new market in weddings to boost Bathurst’s tourism sector.
“I think it’ll be fantastic for hospitality,” she said. “A lot of people have waited for so long and a lot of people are keen to act on this.”
While Rydges have not taken any bookings for same-sex weddings, Ms Houlbrook-Cove said she was ready to accept them.
Celebrant Simon Coomans has long been supportive of same-sex marriage being legalised and welcomed the survey’s yes result.
“They’re just people like you and me and they deserve the same rights,” he said.
“This is such a huge issue and it’s been coming for such a long time.
We absolutely welcome any weddings for any couple who love each other.

“It doesn’t diminish marriage between heterosexual couples, it enhances it because it’s open to everyone. It’s not just for a set group of people.”
Mr Coomans said he expects same-sex weddings to be just as magical as any other.
“You feel the sparks coming off the couples who are saying their vows to each other,” he said.
Bathurst City Community Club (BCCC) manager Rebecca Mathie said in the past the club had already held commitment ceremonies for same-sex couples.
“It’d be nice for them to be able to get married,” she said.
“The BCCC support marriage equality so we’re looking forward to it. It’s just about time that they will able to share in the same experience that straight couples can share in.”
