The Unflinching Gaze, curated by Mr Perram, includes a number of works by or about Andy Warhol including Warhol’s photographic silkscreen print of Mick Jagger, Nat Finklestein’s extraordinary photos of Warhol and the the Silver Factory, and Christopher Makos’ Altered Image project of drag portraits of Warhol.
Gossip: Andy Warhol’s Private Life and His Art will look at how Warhol became a leading artist of the 1960s Pop Art movement and is today one of the most influential artists in the world .
The talk looks at how he ventured into a wide variety of art forms, including performance art, filmmaking, video installations and writing, and controversially blurred the lines between fine art and mainstream aesthetics.Warhol died on February 22, 1987 aged 58.
Bathurst Regional Art Gallery has also announced its first ever naked tour on Thursday, November 30 at 6pm to coincide with BRAG’s current exhibition.
With this event BRAG joins some of Australia’s leading art museums that have been conducting nude tours since 2012 including the Art Gallery of NSW, Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Gallery of Australia, and MONA in Tasmania.
Mr Perram decided to include a naked element to this exhibition to completely remove all material barriers between audience and artwork.
He will lead the tour for naked people aged 18 years and over who want to experience the potentially liberating effects of enjoying art in the nude.
If the nude tour is not for you, BRAG’s assistant curator Julian Woods (fully clothed) will lead you on a free guided tour every Saturday at 11am, with curatorial insights uncovering images that range from the stunning to the commonplace to the mystifying.
The Unflinching Gaze is exclusive to Bathurst and all the public programs and entry to the gallery is free. To find out more about current BRAG events and our opening hours go to www.bathurstart.com.au.
