The reign of long serving Bathurst Clay Target Club president Les Aberley came to end at the club’s AGM last week when he declined to accept nomination as president.

Aberley first became club president on November 27 1981.
His outstanding length of service started in 1978 and he was quickly recognised as a capable and aggressive competitor, reaching Trap AA 22 metres and skeet A grade with handicap of one.
Aberley represented his club, zone and state in skeet more times more times than most of his competitiors would care to remember.
In 1998, Aberley oversaw the club’s relocation to its present location on Mount Panorama.
His service to clay target shooting extends beyond just the club, having served as Central Zone delegate, Central Zone vice president, Central Zone coach, delegate to the NSW Clay Target Association, executive at the NSW Clay Target Association and tournament director and shoot marshall for the Skeet State Championships.
Aberley holds a life membership to the Bathurst Clay Target Club and is one of only 14 people ever awarded life membership to the NSW Clay Target Association.
During recent years, Aberley has concentrated on club administration and project management.
He almost never misses a shoot or practice day, knows all club members by first name and takes pleasure in congratulating competitors at presentations.
