WELL, it seems discontent over Bathurst's branding exercise is not limited to the local region.

I hear some Bathurst residents stopped at a popular cafe in Young last week and the cafe owner asked the travellers where they were from.
"Bathurst,” was the response.
"Tell your council we are forever Young,” the cafe owner told the travellers tersely.
Ouch.
Time will tell if the additional two choices requested by Bathurst Regional Council at last week’s meeting grab the hearts and minds of ratepayers.
It seems to be dangerous by design in the city’s west
BATHURST Regional Council launched a road safety program last week targeting roundabouts.
Many locals complain consistently about plants and flowers obstructing motorists’ view, but as this is a deliberate strategy it is not likely to change.
The roundabout where the promotion was launched, at the intersection of Bradwardine Road and Suttor Street, clearly has design faults, resulting in it having the worst accident record throughout Bathurst.
This, however, is clearly being overlooked, if not ignored, with no attempt being made to modify the current layout despite the accident rate.
While the "slow down, give way and indicate" advice may work on the majority of roundabouts, it has not at this intersection.
The students aren’t the only ones celebrating
YEAR 12 graduations are big business.
Kelso High Campus held its grad last Thursday evening, Bathurst High Campus held its grad on Friday night, while MacKillop College held its grad on Saturday night.
Parents of males get it pretty easy with a suit hire. The females, however, go all out with a new dress, handbag, shoes and accessories.
Then there’s the make-up and getting their hair done for the big day.
It all adds up to a major economic fillip for service providers.
Meeting the challenge of boosting the economy
SPEAKING of an economic fillip, Challenge Bathurst, which was held at Mount Panorama last weekend, created an excellent boost to the local economy despite the wet weather.
It’s in just its second year, but Challenge Bathurst has quickly established itself as a quality event.
More than 400 cars hit the track and competitors did not flinch at all at spending big dollars to enter the event.
The Bathurst region is truly blessed to have many attractions to continually bring visitors to the region.
How this diversity can be channelled into one brand is beyond me.
Thumbs up

Thumbs down
A SAFETY program with glossy brochures won't slow down traffic along Bradwardine Road at the Suttor Street roundabout. Maybe a blitz by Chifley Highway Patrol may have a better chance of success?
