WITH Christmas just around the corner, the Salvation Army is encouraging Bathurst locals to connect with their community, whether it’s participating in Christmas activities, reaching out for help or giving to people in crisis.

Lieutenant Penny Williams said Christmas can be a challenging and isolating time for some, but no one should go it alone.
She encouraged those who are able to help to embrace the spirit of giving.
Christmas is the busiest time of the year for Salvos, not only is it running operation Christmas Cheer to provide toys and food for families in need, it is also preparing a special Christmas Eve service.
“We will need all hands on deck, so join us and give hope where it’s needed most,” she said.
She said people can give hope where its needed most by donating to the Salvos Christmas appeal or dropping quality new gifts to 2BS in George Street.
She said emergency supplies, gifts and assistance will be available for those in need by calling 6331 4956.
Lt Williams said the Salvos desperately need support from the community in helping the less fortunate.
“We definitely need donations to help us; people can deliver new toys down at 2BS, they have to be new, we can’t give second hand toys.”
Gifts for teenagers are again in short supply.
“We don’t tend to get a lot of gifts for teenagers, donating something like a $10 gift voucher, so they can buy their own present, would be amazing.”
Lt Williams also invited the community to attend their Christmas Eve service, at the Salvation Army’s Stewart Street location at 10am.
Morning tea will follow, and everyone is welcome.
