Three months after he announced the NSW Government would spend $1.2 million on increasing the number of car spaces at the facility, Member for Bathurst Paul Toole says the project is on schedule.
The new car park, on level ground on the Durham Street side of the Bathurst Hospital site, will create more than 60 new car spaces.
It comes after frustration from those visiting the hospital that they have had to park blocks away.
Mr Toole said geotechnical works had been conducted on the site, including soil tests, which will help determine the “engineering, civil works and design required”.
He said those works are expected to be completed so the project can go out for tender at the end of January.
“So the $1.2 million project is still due to be completed by the end of the financial year,” he said.
Part of the planning, he said, was to ensure any heavy machinery work causes as little disruption to staff and patients as possible.
He said serious construction work on the site was likely to start in about three months.
“Hopefully, by around March, we’ll start to see some activity on the new car park.”
The new car park will ease the current squeeze on the hospital, but other solutions are likely to be needed in coming years.
Bathurst’s population reached 43,080 last year and the city is predicted to grow to 55,250 people by 2036.
