The recent Young Cherry Carnival Cup-winning gelding surged home from behind raging favourite Whittaker ($1.40) to win in a career best mile rate of 1:53.9.
Whittaker was searching for a fourth straight win to keep his unbeaten record in Australia intact, and looked certain to do so when charging forward to the death seat.
However, Whittaker had used up plenty of energy to get to that position.
O’Shea, who had sat behind the unbeaten favourite throughout the entire trip, blasted by to take an impressive win for trainer Josh Turnbull.
Kotare Mahdi ($19.40) beat Whittaker to second.
It was a great night for O’Shea who also picked up a win on Peter Rixon’s runner Dillon ($16.70) in the Cordina Chicken Farms Pace (1,609m).
