A position as an SES cadet is so highly-sought after that just 24 of the 85 applicants across the college were accepted.
The college has been taking part in the SES cadetships for the past four years and Kelso High teacher Paul Purser said the program has been a benefit for the students.
Students have undertaken training at their school as well as at the SES Bathurst unit and finally at Chifley Dam for flood rescue and search scenarios this Friday.
On Wednesday, cadets took turns in helping to cut up a car using rescue equipment with the help of SES volunteers.
“In terms of looking at a car and what it’s like being smashed, it’s quite confronting,” Mr Purser said.
