Luck in running is certainly something which would help the chances of the seven-year-old mare as she steps up in class for the TAB Highway Handicap (1,400 metres) at Rosehill Gardens.
Given it is a $60,000 race, it has also attracted a quality field, but Stanley thinks Dungannon has earned her chance.
“She’s been a very consistent race horse,” Stanley said of Dungannon, who has a win and 13 placings from 33 starts.
“That third she ran at Mudgee last start, the track was a little on the hard side, she’s a mare that likes it a bit softer.
“But she’s fit, she goes well, she races well without a lot of luck. We thought there’s a race that suits her, so we’ll take her down.
“I think it will be tough her going into a Class 3 as she’s only a Class 1, but they’ve got to step up the ladder some time.”
With regular jockey Claire Nutman riding at Newcastle, Stanley has given Winona Costin the job aboard the God’s Own x Marjorie mare.
Dungannon has drawn well in barrier three, so Stanley is hopeful she can replicate her efforts in Orange late last month when snagging a third in a Class 3 race.
“I don’t expect her to run the 1,400 solid the whole way, she can let others do the bullocking up front and hopefully she can sit off them and then finish over the top of them,” Stanely said.
The race will jump at 1.50pm.
