Usually held on the fourth Saturday of each month from January to November, this month’s markets will be held on the third Saturday of December, just over a week out from Christmas.
Lions Club of Bathurst’s Paul Haysom said it will be one of the largest markets of the year.
“It’s one of the biggest of the year,” he said.
“There’ll be local community groups singing Christmas carols, including the Perthvillians.
“There’ll also be plenty of stalls, with various Christmas goods and themes. Hams, top grade vegetables and Vale Creek Wines will be there.
“You’ll be able to get treats and sauces that go with Christmas, as well as chocolates and a huge selection of wines.”
The event is hosted by the Bathurst Showground, with pavilions expected to be decorated in Christmas-theme fashion.
Gates will open to the public from 8am to midday.
Wander through the pavilions and sample and buy the usual fresh local produce on offer.
The market’s aim is to encourage stalls with goods that are grown or produced within the Bathurst and Central West regions.
One of these local producers is Renelle Fitzgerald, who will bring her business – the Pop-up Succulent Shop – to the markets.
She has been operating her business for just on 12 months and has been attending the Bathurst Farmers’ Markets all year.
“I basically started doing it for the Cathedral School Fete. People kept asking me to do more and the orders starting coming in,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
“I’ve had a lot of orders coming in into Christmas.
“All my goods are either home-grown or locally sourced. I also run workshops.”
Entry to the markets is a gold coin donation and all proceeds from the markets go towards local projects sponsored by the Lions Club of Bathurst.
