Thunder were dominant eight wicket winners in the ‘battle of the border’ as the Sydney club chased down the Stars’ total of 114 with more than five overs to spare.
Bathurst product Griffith remains on the hunt for her first Big Bash League wicket after bowling just six deliveries for 0-14.
There was no chance either of Griffith heading out to bat in the competition for the first time thanks to a dominant performance from openers Rachael Haynes (54) and Rachel Priest (38).
Thunder won the toss and sent the Stars in to bowl.
Openers Lizelle Lee (31) and Anna Lanning (25) made a steady start to the innings to get the Stars to 40 for the first wicket.
However, once the Thunder made their first breakthrough by removing Lee the Stars lost their next six wickets for just 33 runs.
Erin Osborne (25) and Alana King (21) added some respectability to the Stars’ total while the rest of the middle order failed to get going.
Thunder’s Harmanpreet Kaur did the most damage with the ball as she took 3-18 from her four overs.
Haynes and Priest combined for 14 boundaries as the Thunder’s chase looked settled from the word go.
By the time the pair had departed the middle they had taken the score to 2-95 just past the halfway mark in the Thunder’s innings.
Penrith club player Griffith will get a match at her home ground this Saturday in another meeting with the Stars.
