Christmas is often a time of celebration, but for some it can be one of the most stressful times of year.
Lifeline Central West crisis support manager Stephanie Robinson said people can struggle emotionally, mentally and financially.
"You find that this time of year people do feel many different pressures," she said.
One of the big factors that comes into play is feelings of loneliness and isolation, particularly if they have lost a loved one during the year.
"If that is something that is missing from your life, that can be exacerbated at Christmas time," Ms Robinson said.
She said if people are aware someone they know is in that situation, it could be helpful to spend some time with them and involve them in celebrations.
"It is a really nice time to drop by with a gift and have a cup of tea," she said.
Ms Robinson also said that people in Bathurst feeling lonely should reach out to community groups and attend events, such as Barney Rumble's annual Christmas lunch at Hope Church.
Financial pressures can be harder to deal with and may require professional help depending on the severity.
Ms Robinson said people should try to stick to a budget and come up with creative gift ideas to avoid plunging themselves in debt.
"Most people would be mortified to think their gift is causing financial strain for someone," she said.
Anyone struggling with gambling or debt should seek professional help.
"We have a fantastic team of financial and gambling counselors that can help with that," Ms Robinson said.
She said that it can be difficult to reach out for help, but the volunteers at Lifeline Central West are there to provide judgement-free help for a number of issues.
"The people who are on our phones are people who choose to be on our phones," she said.
"You will always be met with someone who is compassionate and considerate."
