The trunk of the tree, named after Jan Hudson, was splintered and the top half of the tree was left dangling.
The top half of the tree was later removed by council.
A spokesperson for Bathurst Regional Council said it couldn’t be determined whether the damage was the result of vandalism or environmental factors.
They said the tree will be replaced as soon as possible.
“Council is in the process of sourcing a replacement tree,” the spokesperson said.
“The replacement will be planted as soon as the tree is available.”
Six Living Legends trees had to be replaced by council earlier this year following an incident in mid-March, where vandals snapped branches off the trees near the Suttor Street roundabout.
These trees were named after David Mills, Maurice McNeil, James McLaren, Beryl McLeay, Jonathan Lewis and Maureen Lewis.
