If gaining new arts skills is on your list, there are a few opportunities happening over the coming weeks.
Respected local artist Ruth Stone will run a five-day painting and drawing intensive from her studio in Carcoar, between Bathurst and Cowra, from January 5 to 10. The cost is $650 for the week. Call her on 0402 446 205 for more information.
Bathurst-based printmaker Kim Bagot has had a wonderful year of art-making, exhibitions and workshops.
Her lino print workshops have become very popular and she’ll run another - a Linocut Printmaking Botanical Illustrative Workshop - over two days on January 13 and 14 at Abercrombie House. A January fixture is the Mitchell School of Art Summer School, run for the past few years by The Art Scene. Scores of keen visual artists will come to town for classes from January 14 to 20 on the CSU campus. All the details are at www.artscenemsa.com.au
Do you like company when you craft? Crafting can be a solitary pursuit, but it is fun to get together with like-minded people.
Rankin Cottage Crafts will this year run free, monthly Craftalong days at their shop at the bottom of Rankin Street.
The first will be held on Sunday, January 14 from 10.30am-1pm. It’s for all kinds of crafters, including crochet, knitting, stitching, beading and embroidery.

Bathurst artist Kay Chapman runs regular group and individual classes in pencil to painting techniques for beginners through to experienced artists.
