Half a century on, the Bathurst Regional Council mechanic celebrated his 50th year milestone on Tuesday morning with his wife and co-workers.
Reflecting on his time, Mr Morgan recalls the ultimatum his parents gave him.
“It was go work or go back to school. I only did up to year nine and in those days, the school certificate had just came in,” he said.
“I love being a mechanic. My dad had been one and I had been helping him out for years before I got the job.”
Over the years he’s had his fair share of highlights.
One highlight includes building the George Reed Special that then Quentin Bryce governor-general drove around when she visited Bathurst in 2013.
“I’ve seen how big council has grown in the past 50 years,” he said.
The now workshop manager at Bathurst Regional Council Works Depot thanked the support of his wife for the past 45 years.
