Bathurst Wholefood Co-operative manager Cathie Hale has had calls of fruit growers wanting to sell their produce.

“I had calls for people wanting to sell trees full of plums and peaches. I’m encouraging them to get a stall to sell their produce,” she said.

“We’ll have people selling honey, garlic, local eggs, fruit, vegetables and other local products. We’ll also have fresh blueberries.

“When you buy locally-grown food, you know it’s been picked either that day or the one before and that it is fresh.

“We want to encourage people that you can make money from selling local produce.

“We had about 17 stores for the markets before Christmas but we expected to have four to five on Saturday.”

A cafe will be open, there will be live music and the co-operative shop will be open selling nuts, muesli and fruit.

The markets, which are held at the Macquarie Plaza off William Street, are held on the first and third Saturday of each month and run from 9am to midday.

Entry to the markets is free and for more information contact Ms Hale at 6332 1545.
