The first is by Sarah Gurich, curator at BRAG, who will present an illustrated talk on January 18 about her recent trip to the 57th Venice Biennale.
She worked there as the NSW team leader for the Tracey Moffatt exhibition called My Horizon 2017.
Ms Gurich will discuss the Biennale, Tracey Moffatt’s work and highlights from her time in Venice and also her visit to Florence which is the centre of Italian renaissance art and architecture.
She was selected to take part in the program from a competitive field of artists, curators and gallery directors from around regional NSW and Western Sydney.
During the five weeks that Ms Gurich was at the Venice Biennale, more than 70,000 people visited the Australian pavilion; while the 2017 Venice Biennale exhibition ran for six months and attracted a record 615,000 visitors.
The second talk is by Professor Robyn Sloggett, Australia's leading expert on conservation, on January 25.
She will present illustrated talk on the role of conservation within a museum and gallery and explain why science is necessary for understanding art.
University of Melbourne’s Prof Sloggett was the recipient of Bathurst Regional Council’s Bathurst Macquarie Heritage Medal in 2016.
The prestigious $25,000 national prize recognises an individual who demonstrates a significant contribution to the protection or promotion of Australia’s built, social, cultural or environmental heritage.
Entry to Ms Gurich talk is $8 for BRAGS members/concessions and $10 for non members and includes a light supper.
