The event, which will be held at the Bathurst Aquatic Centre, will be one of the last qualifying events in the Central West for the championships which will be hosted at the Sydney Olympic Park.
Over 200 competitors are expected to compete, with a strong contingent of swimmers coming from the Bathurst club.
Club publicity officer Meredith Caddis said the numbers indicate a strong turnout for Sunday.
“We have about 50 swimminers coming from the Bathurst club. It’s one of our biggest amount of swimmers we’ve had in a few years,” she said.
“We’ve also got quite a lot of swimmers coming from Sydney and across the Central West.
“This is one of the last chance kids have in the region to qualify for this year’s NSW Country Championships.”
Competitors, on Sunday, will be aged six- to 23-years-old, with plenty talent across the ages including Mercedes Cornelius, Molly McCrossin, Poppy Stephen, Ben Roofe and Oliver Hamer.
Caddis said there is a strong contingent of swimmers in the 11-13 age group.
“At the middle, we have quite a lot of strong 11-13 age group boys,” she said.
“We’re strong in both the boys and the girls, but the boys are stronger in that age group.”
The qualifier should also see some new faces compete for places at next month’s country championships.
“We’ve got a lot of new swimmers coming and for some, it’ll be the first carnival of this level,” Caddis said.
“We’ve got some swimmers who have just joined and it should be exciting for them to swim with some good local and experienced swimmers.
“We’re expecting some really good swimming across all ages on Sunday.”
A number of club coaches are also expected to be on hand, to watch their students try to qualify on Sunday, including club head coach Steve Howell.
Entries for the event closed on Friday, January 12, and no late entries will be accepted.
