Darren Phillip Hall, 47, of Commonwealth Street, appeared in person and unrepresented.
The first charge, driving a motor vehicle during a period of disqualification, occurred on July 24.
Police were called to the Macquarie Tutorial Centre in Rankin Street on an unrelated matter, and the accused was sitting in the driver’s seat of a white Mazda with his ex-partner in the passenger seat.
The accused’s ex-partner exited the passenger seat, ran up to police and said: “Look, Darren Hall is driving.”
At this stage, the police were unaware of the accused person’s licence status, however, they looked at the vehicle as it drove past and saw Hall as the driver.
Inquires were made on the Roads and Maritime Services database and revealed the accused driver’s licence was disqualified until November 2, 2026.
Police subsequently attended the accused’s home.
Mr Allen disqualified Hall from driving for 12 months, placed him on a Section 9 bond for 18 months and ordered him to accept Community Corrections supervision as long as necessary.
The second offence, driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period, occurred on September 21, 2017. On this occasion, Hall was stopped in Esrom Street for a breath test and oral fluid test.
His breath test produced a negative result, but an oral fluid test returned a positive result. He was arrested for a second oral fluid test, which also returned a positive reading.
He told police: “I had pot last night and ice a couple of days ago.”
For driving while disqualified, Hall was disqualified from driving for 12 months and put on a Section 9 bond for 18 months. For driving with an illicit drug present in his blood, he was fined $550 and disqualified from driving for 12 months
For a third matter, driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period second-plus offence, which occurred in December 2017, Hall was convicted, fined $550 and placed on a Section 9 bond for 18 months.
