Parade visited a lapidary workshop for children this week and found out that taking part wasn't easy.
Why? Because spots book out very, very fast.
There are only six places in the workshop, which is run by the Bathurst Stamp, Coin, Collectables and Lapidary Club and comes very highly recommended.
Parade heard that children who had already been to the workshop were encouraging their friends to go along - and their friends were taking their advice.
So, parents, if you want your child to take part in the next lapidary workshop, make sure you book them in fast.
Ready to play the weighting game
HAVE you got a too-large labrador at home? What about a tubby terrier or a beefy British blue?
A press release that passed across Parade’s desk this week might just be for you.
Petbarn, Parade is told, is challenging Bathurst pet owners and their furry friends to enter their animals in the Petbarn’s Biggest Pet Loser challenge, which aims to help Aussie pets and their owners lose weight and improve their overall health and wellbeing.
Locals with overweight dogs or cats can register for the challenge at petbarnbiggestpetloser.com.au and go into the running to participate in the challenge for the chance to win a $2000 Petbarn voucher and $1000 cash.
The top 10 chosen pet participants will be provided with a customised health and nutrition plan by Greencross Vets and the pet owner will receive a personalised consultation with celebrity trainer Sam Wood (you might remember him from such programs as The Bachelor), along with access to three rounds of his online training and nutrition program, 28 By Sam Wood.
And is pet obesity really such a big problem?
According to Petbarn, some estimates show 41pc of Aussie dogs and 32pc of Aussie cats are overweight.
Parade will be looking at the dogs and cats in his neighbourhood with a newly critical eye after these shocking revelations.
