The Bathurst talent forms part of the national side which will compete in Berlin in February, the Australians in a pool which includes hosts Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Namibia.
It is the fifth time Australia has qualified for the women’s event, while Bunt is looking forward to her first World Cup appearance.
She was set to travel to Leipzig in 2015 for the same tournament, but a serious knee injury which required surgery ruled her out.
“This World Cup, it will be a bit more special to me because I got selected last World Cup and got a bad injury right before it, so I had to pull out,” Bunt said before flying out for Europe on Saturday.
“That was very heart-breaking, this could’ve been my second World Cup. To pull out so close to it before with injury was devastating, so this one will be very exciting for me.
“I’m am excited, but I’m more probably a bit anxious, a bit phased. I think each day, the closer it gets, I will get a bit more excited. It’s come around very quickly actually.
“Each time you get selected for an Australian team or each time you get your uniform, it’s very exciting. You’ve just got to tell yourself that you can’t take it for granted because there may be a day where you’re not playing anymore.
“It’s a big honour, it’s lovely when you get selected.”
In 2015 the Australians placed eighth, while the best effort from the national side in their four World Cup appearances thus far was sixth in 2007.
It is a result Bunt is determined to help the Australians improve on, but she knows her European rivals will not be easy to beat in the frenetically-paced six-a-side format.
“We are slowly getting there, I think we are ranked about eighth which isn’t too bad for indoor hockey. The European teams, their indoor is just as important as their outdoor because obviously due to weather, they play a big chunk of their season indoors,” Bunt, who has also been capped with the Hockeyroos, said.
“With indoor here, we don’t focus on it as much. We should, I think it’s an amazing sport, but we just don’t play as much as they do. Because it’s so cold over there they are used to it, they are very well drilled.
“I honestly think we are looking to make semi-finals and higher than that. I think to make the semi-final would be a huge achievement, so obviously that’s the first goal, and then we want to try and win each game after that.
“Every game you can win at the World Cup is a big honour. I’m really looking forward to putting in a good performance and trying to do the best Australia has ever done at the World Cup, that’s what I’m focusing on.”
Bunt, who toured Europe last January with the Australian indoor side, is one of 12 players in the national team which will compete in Berlin, the squad having been trimmed down from 40 initial hopefuls.
She earned her selection after impressing for the New South Wales team at the national titles.
The World Cup runs from February 7-11.
