THIRTEEN events have been nominated for major awards as part of Bathurst’s Australia Day honours.

Nine events were nominated for the Community Event of the Year award, while the remaining four are in the running for the Destination Event of the Year.
The award winners will be chosen by Bathurst’s Australia Day Committee and then presented in a special ceremony on January 26.
The Community Event of the Year award recognises those who have worked hard, often on a voluntary basis, to create a community event.
Last year, the award went to the Bathurst Child and Family Network Family (BCFN) Family Fun Day.
The event is nominated in the category again this year and BCFN chair Annette Meyers said it was a good feeling.
“After winning once, it really hit home that Family Fun Day has really struck a chord for Bathurst,” she said.
She said the nomination not only recognises the work of BCFN, but also the work of the other organisations that come together for the Family Fun Day.
“It is really for everyone to celebrate in that nomination and we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for helping us to create such a family-friendly event.”
The other nominees for the award are:

- Bathurst District Sport and Recreation Council 40th Sports Award Dinner
- Bathurst Artisan Trades Trail
- Bathurst parkrun
- Carols by Candlelight
- Eglinton War Memorial Hall's 70th birthday celebrations
- Hay 2 Help
- Livebetter Accessibility Day
Jennifer Arnold, one of the organisers of parkrun, has a lot to celebrate as another event she is behind, Mount Panorama Punish, was nominated for the Destination Event of the Year Award.
The nomination for Mount Panorama Punish was particularly exciting, as it was the inaugural event.
It attracted more than 550 participants, two-thirds of them from outside Bathurst.
Ms Arnold said it would be great to win, but it was just as exciting to have the two events nominated.
“We don’t expect anything at all. It would be thrilling to pick up an award, but for both it’s the people who participate in them that tell how good they are,” she said.
Also nominated for Destination Event of the Year was The Unflinching Gaze, a groundbreaking exhibition curated by Richard Perram, director of Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.
Mr Perram said the exhibition brought a lot of people to Bathurst and it was exciting to be recognised for that.
“I was expecting there might have been a bit of controversy about it, but there was no controversy, and it just shows the maturity of Bathurst,” he said.
The other nominees for Destination Event of the Year are the Bathurst Gold Crown Carnival and the National Cool Climate Wine Show public tasting.
