The team is led by Linda Clemens, who is also the chairperson of the organising committee for the event.
She started taking part in Relay for Life three years ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer in August, 2014.
“I had never really heard much about [Relay for Life] until I was diagnosed with cancer,” Ms Clemens said.
“I wanted to volunteer at Daffodil Cottage, but I found out that I couldn’t do that, so I decided this was a way I could help.”
She hasn’t been alone in offering support, with her team last year including around 30 family members and friends who came from all over the state to join her in the relay.
As a cancer survivor, Ms Clemens knows first-hand the devastating affects the disease can have on those diagnosed and their families.
She has had three operations since her diagnosis, has undergone chemotherapy and will have to take tablets for the next 10 years.
“I was a bit naive; I thought it would not happen to me,” Ms Clemens said.
Blondies Angels takes part to raise money for the Cancer Council NSW in the hopes that, through the charity’s work, other people won’t have to have the same experience.
Ms Clemens has encouraged other residents to sign up for Relay for Life, which this year has an overall fundraising goal of $100,000.
“It is a great way to meet new people and it is a fantastic way to make a difference,” she said.
Bathurst’s Relay for Life will be held on March 10 and 11 at All Saints College.
