She was among 52 children to start kindergarten classes at the Cathedral Catholic Primary School on Tuesday.
Emellia said her older brother Logan, 9, who attends the same school, had given her some advice ahead of her first day.
“He said I’m not allowed to have my hair down,” she said.
When asked what she would learn now that she had started school, Emellia replied: “Working and writing”.
She was accompanied on the big day by her parents Amanda and Russ Hlushak.
“It’s harder the second time around, she’s our last,” Mrs Hlushak said of dropping Emellia off to school for the first time.
Mrs Hlushak said Emellia had been very excited to start school and couldn’t wait to go shopping to get her uniform and shoes.
“She’s so ready, she’s been ready for months,” she said.
