The program was introduced several years ago by Bathurst Regional Council to provide financial assistance to businesses so they could purchase and install closed-circuit television at their premises.
Since its inception, there have been 48 businesses that have been successful in obtaining funding for their projects.
Businesses within the local government area can apply for funding up to a maximum of $500 on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
Applications should address the criteria for the program.
The criteria includes:
- the specifications, quality and source of equipment
- a guarantee that the surveillance equipment will be registered with Bathurst Police
- that there is potential for coverage of the public spaces adjacent to the premises
The application also needs to be completed with information supporting and addressing the need for CCTV in the business location.
For projects to be eligible for funding, they need to be completed within the 2017-18 financial year.
For further details or an application package, contact 6333 6206 or visit council’s website.
Applications close at 4pm on Friday, February 16.
Councillor Alex Christian, who made CCTV a top priority for his election campaign, said this program will help improve security in Bathurst.
“I do think it is a great initiative,” he said. “It is a step in the right direction.”
Businesses that have submitted applications for the CCTV Funding Program have done so to help secure their premises and to protect the community.
They often encourage other businesses to apply for funding as well.
In March last year, there were seven businesses approved to receive funding, one of which was Marathon Health.
Executive manager of Corporate Services and Finance, Robert Strickland, said Marathon Health wanted to make its premises safer.
“Marathon Health is committed to providing a safe and secure workplace to protect both our clients and staff,” he said.
“In order to protect our assets and continue to provide quality healthcare to our communities, we took the opportunity to apply for Bathurst Regional Council’s CCTV grants.”
