Racing as part of the Bathurst 12 Hour support program, Inwood managed just one lap in his 2001 Corvette C5 in the Friday morning practice/qualifying session.
On his second lap he was clipped by a rival just outside the Bathurst Light Car Club’s base on Conrod Straight.
The damage to his car – which actually clocked the eighth fastest lap of the session – ended his weekend.
“A slow car has moved over, he moved straight into me and put me into the grass. He clearly didn’t look,” Inwood said.
“I wasn’t that concerned at first but then it grabbed hold of all the wash-outs stuff from the storms. It snapped my steering … all this [left] side panels, it’s carbon fibre, it’s all gone, it ripped the floor out.
“We still had seven laps to find a gap. I was having a good run down Conrod, I was quicker than that other car, but he just moved straight across. He didn’t go off, he went past me just as I hit the fence.
“There’s a bit too much to do to get back out there .. we would’ve been top three no worries.
“All I really wanted to do was finish, I didn’t care where. I had a lot of engine issues last year, but then you get it running like a clock and you get some clown do that.”
