The bigger, better facility was the brainchild of Dr Ray Parkin, who has been a practising cardiologist in Bathurst since 2005.
“Cardiology has developed so rapidly over the past few years that my premises became too small,” he said.
Cardiac ultrasounds, stress echo tests and cardiac CT scanning are among the areas that have seen major development.
To give an indication of how crucial cardiology services are, Dr Parkin said he has seen more than 15,500 patients since coming Bathurst.
He said building the bigger facility was his way of bringing more cardiologists to the city to meet the high demand.
“Now that I’ve built the facility, my next objective is to recruit more cardiologists,” he said.
The facility is state-of-the-art, has on-site parking and is fully wheelchair accessible.
It was constructed by Tablelands Builders in just six months.
“The facility is about 400 square metres and it has a total of eleven rooms for consulting and investigation,” Dr Parkin said.
“The reception area and waiting room is much larger and I think it is really state-of-the-art.
“We really looked very much at the client side of things and their comfort [when designing the waiting area].”
Dr Parkin has a keen interest in astronomy and has added a little flair to the corridors by hanging space photography on the walls.
Bathurst Cardiology was opened to clients a little over three weeks ago, but will have its grand opening on February 15.
The feedback from clients has been very positive so far.
“People just think it is a fantastic facility and people are really pleased we are investing in medical facilities in Bathurst,” Dr Parkin said.
He is also excited to tell people that Dr Cheyne Donges, a well-known lecturer at Charles Sturt University, has become a permanent member of the team.
“He has joined me full time now to assist me in exercise testing, exercise physiology, ultrasound, and lung function testing,” he said.
