Dr Kumari Wathulande has worked as a vet for almost a decade, and now she is in her few weeks of practice at Bathurst Veterinary Hospital.

Passionate about the welfare of pets and animals of all shapes and sizes, she believes in a holistic approach to veterinary care.

“Holistic care is a good approach for any condition, rather than just medical,” Dr Wathulande said.

“I try to minimise medication where possible.”

Dr Wathulande begun her career as a vet in her native Sri Lanka, and then continued to practice after her move to Australia.

For the last few years she has lived in Dubbo while practicing as a vet in Wellington, but has decided that Bathurst would offer new opportunities for her career.

“I wanted to do something to improve myself, I wanted more training,” she said.

While already proficient in animal surgeries, she hopes to complete further training in orthopaedics.

Dr Wathulande is also keen to expand the clinic’s home care treatment options.

There are a number of key tips Dr Wathulande has for the community when it comes to the care of their pets and animals.

Get any unusual symptoms in your animals checked sooner rather than later, and always desex and vaccinate your animals.

“Everyone wants to have their pet for as long as possible and have it healthy and happy for as long as they can,” Dr Wathulande said.
