We’ve been reviewing some of the categories over time to remind you of the great year of sport we at Bathurst over the course of 2017.
There’s been some fantastic individual and team performances we’ve reviewed before now but it’s time to look back at the great events which took place in our city.
Here’s our rundown of the nominees in our Event of the Year category.
The Bathurst 1000 saw David Reynolds and Luke Youlden give Erebus Motorsport victory in the Great Race.
Reynolds was just a matter of metres away from victory five years earlier but helped put that disappointment behind him with a great drive in the Erebus Commodore during treacherous conditions.
Several front runners came to grief in the closing hours but Reynolds enjoyed a drama-free run home.
Last year’s Bathurst 12 Hour was one to savour for Maranello Motorsport as they claimed their second title in the endurance event.
Jamie Whincup and co-driver Toni Vilander claimed their first 12 Hour victories while for Craig Lowndes it was his second time on top of the podium.
Whincup survived a challenge in the final stages from fellow Supercars Championship regular Shane Van Gisbergen, before the latter crashed out at The Dipper and saw his hopes dashed.
The Gold Crown Carnival once again attracted great horses and plenty of spectators to Bathurst.
The final of the Gold Crown two-year-old classic was an especially entertaining and memorable affair thanks to the victory of outsider Castalong Shadow.
Lithgow trainer-driver Geoff Simpsons’ $24.70 outsider not only stunned a strong field but the 1:55.2 winning mile rate was the fastest in crown history.
The NRL returned to Bathurst in June and what a cracking game it delivered.
Tyrone Peachey scored a late, match-winning try for the Penrith Panthers to get them home 24-20 over the Canberra Raiders.
The final nominee for the Event of the Year category is a new entrant, the Mount Panorama Punish.
Five-time winner of the Bathurst Half Marathon 10 kilometre title, Mitch Williamson, added to his great record by winning the inaugural race.
