Your Achin’ Heart is the third single from the duo’s debut album, Dark Gives Way, to reach number one on the Australian Country Radio’s (ACR) Top 10.
Bathurst-based Smith & Jones were followed in the charts by Too Drunk To Drive by Brad Cox who was in at number two and Way Out West 2018 by James Blundell and Friends at number three.
Smith & Jones’ Abby Smith said the duo were happy to have received the top spot yet again.
“It’s really cool, but we try and keep in mind that it’s one chart in a whole sea of charts,” she said.
“The thing that’s really important to us is that radio stations are supporting us.”
Ms Smith is the duo’s songwriter and said it was surreal to have the song reach number one.
Your Achin’ Heart was one of the first songs Ms Smith wrote for Smith & Jones, and she said it remained very close to her heart.
“It started off as a ballad,” she said. “It’s about a man who broke up with a long-time partner and he’s in a town he doesn’t know and he’s feeling disconnected and invisible.”
Because the duo have been playing the song to audiences for a few years, Ms Smith said many people know the words.
“I always get really, really emotional when I see people mouthing the song,” she said of the gigs they play.
The duo have just returned from a swag of gigs at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and Smith & Jones’ Sophie Smith said she had not realised Your Achin’ Heart was charting so high.
“We would have never thought it’d have three number ones in it,” she said of their album.
Ms Smith said she was overjoyed that the song was charting so well thanks to all the requests that had been made for it on ACR.
The duo’s first two singles – Baby Blue and Small Town Woman – also reached the coveted number one spot on the ACR charts.
Baby Blue was also listed as number four in ACR’s top songs of 2017.
