The second annual Cupid’s Undie Run in Bathurst was held in Machattie Park, with 40 people taking part to help raise funds for the Children’s Tumour Foundation.
Organiser Amy Toole said while numbers might have been down on the 60 entrants who took part last year, they still managed to raise more than $4000.
All funds raised will help people with neurofibromatosis, a genetic condition that has a range of symptoms including: tumours, learning difficulties, bone problems and hearing loss. There is no cure.
Bathurst man Geoff Bottom was among the runners and was taking part in support of her daughter Fiona, 14, who has the condition.
He said the event helps provide continued funding for a neurofibromatosis support person at children’s hospitals and also camps for patients and their families.
Dubbo woman Trish Taylor has neurofibromatosis and travelled to Bathurst with her friend Kristy Sawtell to take part.
“I’ve had a malignant tumour in my leg which was related to neurofibromatosis,” she said.
Ms Taylor said a number of her family members also suffer from the condition.
“I’m so fortunate, my heart goes out to the kids who have worse symptoms,” she said.
Ms Toole praised the runners from Bathurst, Orange, Lithgow, Parkes and Dubbo who took part in the fundraiser and said they were a “great bunch of girls and guys”.
