Collingwood came down hard on De Goey after the P-plater returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.095 per cent after a random breath test in Port Melbourne on Saturday night.

De Goey and his manager met with senior club officials and the leadership group on Monday and agreed to a raft of sanctions and conditions.

On top of copping an indefinite AFL suspension, the 21-year-old was also banned from drinking alcohol for the rest of the AFL season, was fined $10,000 - and will make a further $10,000 donation to charity - and has been directed to find employment away from the club for at least four weeks.

He must also take on a role with a charitable organisation and will train in the evenings with the VFL squad during that period.

Pies skipper Scott Pendlebury said his teammate was remorseful for his actions.

He pledged to support De Goey as he attempts to get back on the straight and narrow, but also backed the strong penalties.

"I spoke to him Sunday night and he was shattered," Pendlebury said.

"Like any (player) who has offended with drink driving they're shattered not only that they've hurt the football club but something serious could have happened.

"I think it's bigger than just thinking he might miss an AFL game - he could have seriously hurt someone."

De Goey will seek professional help to improve his decision making and agreed to make significant changes to his social life, including the people he associates with.

His licence was immediately suspended by police and he was disqualified from driving for six months.

The incident comes a year after he was suspended for three games for lying to the club, when he claimed a broken hand suffered in a bar fight in St Kilda was incurred while playing with his dog.

De Goey missed the first three matches of the season while he recovered from that injury and then served his club-imposed suspension.

Pies football chief Geoff Walsh was blunt in his assessment of De Goey's future with the club.

"Jordan can have a long career with Collingwood if he commits himself wholly to his football but he could also have a very short career if he doesn't," Walsh said.

"The club, and particularly his teammates, want to see behavioural change. They need to be able to trust him and believe in him.

"Jordan can win back the faith he has lost over a period of time and have a very good career if he honours all that he has agreed to today.

"He is telling us he wants to change. The time for talking is over."

The No.5 pick at the 2014 draft has played 50 games in three seasons with the club.
