Corrective Services NSW stands by its announcement that we are creating a net gain of 68 new jobs in the Central West.
While some positions at four Correctional Centres will be affected by benchmarking, many more are being created to staff the new prison facility and as part of the government’s program to reduce reoffending. This will lead to more effective prisons and a larger regional economy.
Benchmarking is about performance improvement and that involves structural change.
At the moment NSW has 30 per cent more staff in prison middle management positions than other jurisdictions. Benchmarking actually increases front line correctional officer coverage in most centres through more effective rostering.
Every effort will be made to ensure that staff affected by benchmarking are found other CSNSW jobs in the area.
Benchmarking will not compromise the safety and security of staff and inmates.
