Stephen Shane Greenfield, 35, of Patterson Close in Kelso, appeared before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court charged with damaging property intentionally.
Police facts tendered to the court told how Greenfield and the victim were at home on November 1, 2017 when they became involved in an argument regarding the victim’s carer.
During this argument, the accused became angry and picked up a machete in the room.
The accused raised the machete and struck the television table three times, causing three dents in the table.
He pulled a photo frame off the wall, damaging it, removed the pictures from the frame and tore them in half.
Greenfield then punched two large holes in the plasterboard wall of the bedroom before leaving the house on a motorbike, the police facts said.
The victim contacted the carer, who in turn contacted the police, who attended and took a video statement from the victim.
During the interview, the victim located the machete that was used to damage the table, which was seized by police.
At 2.30pm on November 7, police attended a property in Munro Street and arrested Greenfield, taking him back to Bathurst Police Station.
While in custody, Greenfield participated in an electronically recorded interview and claimed the victim had assaulted Greenfield by punching him.
The accused said he took the machete out of the victim's hand on at least two occasions while she was holding it by her side.
He said the victim did not threaten him in any way and admitted to swinging the machete at the table on a number of occasions with the intent of having the blade lodged into the table.
He also admitted to hitting the wall on two occasions.
Mr Allen imprisoned Greenfield for 10 months with a non-parole period of five months.
