The theme was “Flappers, gangsters and Gatsby style”.
The dance group, organised by Marlena Welch, was made up of skilled old-time, ballroom and new-vogue dancers from Adelaide, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Canberra, Oberon, Lithgow, Katoomba, Victoria, Sydney and, of course, Bathurst.
The group was invited to the fifth annual Abercrombie House Ball by Christopher and Xanthe Morgan. A beautiful three-course meal was provided by Mrs Morgan. In fact, guests feasted all through the evening.
The ball was officially opened by Rex Morgan at 8pm and continued until midnight to the music provided by Phil and Ester, who are well-known in the ballroom dancing circles for their rhythm and dance tunes.
The guests were entertained during the evening with a demonstration of a new dance called the Talia Tango, choreographed by John and Andria Barwick from Corowa.
The ball was followed on the Sunday by an After The Ball Dance. Guests danced, toured Abercrombie House and sat down to a beautiful relaxed brunch.
Also during the morning, Josh Turner from Wagga Wagga gave lessons to keen dancers.
All were keen to learn the Talia Tango assisted by Russell Edwards. There was also a brief lesson on how to dance the Kardinia Saunter.
Organisers said they were delighted that the proceeds will help in the preservation of one of the “region’s greatest heritage treasures”.
