Roads and Maritime Services crews are due to start work on Monday on a $1.1 million upgrade of a section of the Mitchell Highway at the city’s western entrance from Orange.
The NSW Government will provide funding for this work on the section of road known as Vittoria Street to provide a safer road surface for all road users.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the work would provide a safer passageway for vehicles utilising the busy stretch of road.
“This work will involve removing and replacing asphalt to provide a smoother road surface and improve safety for all road users, between Peel Street and Boundary Road,” Mr Toole said.
“To reduce the impact on motorists, work will be carried out at night, between 6pm and 6am, from Monday, February 26 to Friday, March 2, weather permitting.
“During work, there will be lane closures closest to where work is being carried out for the safety of workers and road users.
“There also will be some temporary traffic changes including minor detours and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h during work hours.”

Residents are advised to park their vehicles on Vittoria Street while the work is being completed. Instead, they should park in their driveways or on side streets.
“Motorists should plan their trip, allow extra travel time and follow the direction of all signs,” Mr Toole said.
“Roads and Maritime Services thanks motorists for their patience during this time.”
The Vittoria Street upgrade is the latest in a series of improvements to the Mitchell Highway on Bathurst’s fringe.
Bathurst Regional Council has installed a major welcome sign at the intersection of the highway and Bradwardine Road and Norwood Park has landscaped a pond of reflection at the crematorium that has greatly improved the aesthetics of the entrance.
Businesses in the area have also been urged to keep their front lawns neat and tidy as a welcome to visitors to the city.
