In 2017 ALO increased its scope and became a registered aged care provider to support people who have a Home Care Package under My Aged Care.
Home Care Packages are accessed through My Aged Care website. Staff at ALO can help people explore what type of support they need, guide them through the process and then connect them with My Aged Care to seek access services.
“We are delighted that we can now offer local people such a great local service,” ALO executive officer Cheryl Keogh said.
“The packages, which are subsidised by the Federal Government, are adaptable for people’s needs.
“Some people might need help to do their heavy cleaning, to be taken to medical appointments or to get the groceries, other people may need help with personal care.
“ALO has a group of local committed support workers who are ready to assist people to remain living in their own home. The support workers are all trained, experienced and trusted members of the ALO staff.”
ALO also runs a social support program offering outings for people to help give them a sense of social belonging.
Last week the Men’s Group went out to the greyhound track to have a look behind the scenes and learn about the industry before enjoying a tasty lunch in their lovely restaurant. The Neighbour Aid group went to Lithgow to the State Mine Heritage Park before lunch at Secret Garden Restaurant.
The other service ALO provides in the aged care arena is carer respite. The program gives carers a short break to have some time for themselves and achieve some of the day-to-day tasks which are difficult to manage when in a full time caring role.
ALO delivers its services with caring, qualified experienced staff and a band of generous volunteers. Many of the ALO volunteers have been with ALO for 10 years or more.
The volunteers enjoy helping people maintain their independence.
When asked about volunteering at ALO the group cites the friendship and support as the reason they enjoy ALO so much.
