Join a free celebration (including refreshments) of the newly refurbished Neighbourhood Centre. The international theme for this year is “Press for progress”, focusing on gender equity. Further details are available on Bathurst Regional Council’s website. The event will run from 10am to noon at the centre at 96 Russell Street.

Friday, March 9
A bronze plaque, commemorating Bathurst’s nurses of the 1914-18 Great War, will be unveiled on the War Memorial Carillon in Kings Parade by the Bathurst District Historical Society at 10am.

Saturday, March 10
Local journalist, documentary-maker and writer Tracy Sorensen will launch her new novel, The Lucky Galah, at 2.30pm in the Piper Function Room at the Oxford Hotel. Tickets are $15 (includes light refreshments) and bookings are essential from BooksPlus, 6331 5994. The book is set in Western Australia’s north at the time of the moon landing.
From Saturday, March 10 onwards, visit the special World War One nurses display in the Bathurst District Historical Society Museum in the east wing of Bathurst Court House. Museum and bookshop hours: Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm; Saturday and Sunday 11am to 2pm.
Collectables and Antique Firearms Show will be held in the Bathurst Showground pavilions from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 9am to 3pm on Sunday. There will be a number of private collections on display. See RAAF memorabilia, historic and colonial firearms, goldfield displays, medals and medallions, microscopes, a Chinese display and an early settlers and colonialist display. There will also be firearms and collectables dealers.
