The memorial event was moved forward a week earlier to avoid a clash with the Dubbo round of the Interclub Series but the approval process for the date change uncovered “problems with our existing sanctions”, as said in a statement from the Bathurst club.
“There were sanctioning concerns around it and that meant we were unable to hold the race. It’s a disappointing way to end what has otherwise been a great local season,” Bathurst club president James Kelly said.
“Our numbers have been strong and our club has gone from strength to strength. There’s a great feeling of growth.
“The feedback is obviously that a lot of people are disappointed about the race being cancelled but they’re thankful for a great season of racing.
“If this race being cancelled – albeit a big event like the Carroll-Scott Memorial – is the worst thing that happens to us this season then I’d say it’s still been a good year.
“The numbers of seniors, and particularly female competitors, that we’ve had is amazing.
“We’re still encouraging everyone to get to the Dubbo Interclub round next weekend.
“Following that we’ve got the NSW Triathlon Club Championships on the next weekend. We’ve got the second most amount of entries in our division for that event which is great to see.”
