Soar, Ride and Shine Bathurst, 2018: Car registrations open

The Cobra replica, which was built in 2008, is among the cars, motorbikes and planes that have been entered in the upcoming Soar, Ride and Shine event.

To be held at Bathurst Airport on the weekend of April 7-8, the action-packed, rockabilly-inspired festival is a huge fundraiser for Lifeline Central West.

In Soar, Ride and Shine’s inaugural year of being held it attracted more than 8000 people of all ages and raised $35,000 for the charity.

Mrs Whittaker has long had a passion for owning a Cobra and said it started when she was young.

“I can remember back as a small child watching a Shell ad and it had a red Cobra in it,” she said.

“I always wanted a red one, but this one ticked all the boxes, it’s orange and it’s [the paint colour] called ‘oh so orange’.”

Far from being a car that only gets driven once in a while, Mrs Whittaker said she takes it out wherever possible.

“I’ve owned it for four years now and I try to drive it once a week,” she said.

“They’re just a beasty little car.”

Registrations are still open for cars and motorbikes at the family-friendly event and Lifeline Central West executive officer Alex Ferguson said those who register a vehicle will actually save on entry costs.

“It’s $20 to register and this includes entry for one person, this is a $5 saving on the adult entry fee,” he said.

“It’s actually cheaper to bring your bike or car than to walk in as a pedestrian.”

While registrations are open for modern cars or motorbikes, Mr Ferguson said the vehicle has to be a “little special” and not just your everyday ride.

“We’re looking for anything that’s special, or anything that’s old,” he said.

Along with the car, motorbikes and air show, the event will also feature a host of live music across three stages as well as a pin up girl competition and wide range of food options and market stalls.

Spectators are encouraged to come along both days of the event, with flying program running on Saturday afternoon and from 10.30am until 2pm on Sunday.
