FIREFIGHTERS were called to an out-of-control bushfire burning near the Mitchell Highway west of Bathurst.

The blaze occurred on Friday afternoon at The Rocks, around 15 kilometres west of the city.
“Firefighters from Eglinton, along with Bathurst, responded to bush alight this afternoon on the Mitchell Highway at The Rocks,” a post on Eglinton Rural Fire Brigade’s Facebook page said.
“A section of bush, approximately one hectare in size, was alight when crews arrived on scene.
“Both crews worked quickly to contain the blaze and render the scene safe.”
Meanwhile, hot weather is set to return to Bathurst on the weekend with a top of 33 degrees predicted on Saturday and 34 on Sunday.
A very high fire danger rating is in place for the Central Ranges on Saturday which includes the following council areas: Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Lithgow, Mid-Western, Oberon and Orange.
