Bathurst’s inaugural PUBlic Choir is on this Wednesday night and forget soprano, contralto, tenor, baritone or bass, all you will need in this choir is enthusiasm.
Mitchell Conservatorium executive director Graham Sattler is the man behind the event and he has joined forces with The George Hotel to make it happen.
“I always like to have things that people haven’t done before,” he said.
Far from being in the conservatorium’s rooms or concert halls, this choir will be conducted over a beer, or whatever else you drink, at The George Hotel.
“Every opportunity to bring a musical event into the community is what I’m looking for,” Mr Sattler said.
“This is about community singing in public places.
“It’s about meeting people where they’re hanging out and people singing.”
Mr Sattler said the PUBlic Choir would not be a traditional, formal choir event and that it was more about a fun and social night while everyone learnt the words to a “classic hit with a drink in hand”.
Participant will rehearse, relax and perform all on the one night.
Mr Sattler said the PUBlic Choir would not be like a karaoke evening, and was about people singing together as two accompanying musicians play along.
“We’re committed to bringing musical activities to the whole community … we’re looking to bring music to where the people are,” he said.

The George Hotel licensee Matt Harrowsmith said he jumped at the chance to have Bathurst’s inaugural PUBlic Choir in his premises.
“There’s been a bit of interest and I’ve had a few people call me about it,” he said.
“I think once people see how it works and once they see the whole thing they’ll love it.”
Mr Harrowsmith said The George Hotel’s kitchen opens from 5.30pm if people were keen to come early for dinner.
The title of the classic hit song that the choir will be performing will remain firmly under wraps until the day before the event.
PUBlic Choir kicks off at 7pm on Wednesday and entry is free.
