A scoring blitz from Bathurst’s Matt Gray (43), Will Cranston-Lown (28) and Anai Mathiang (24) put the game out of the Heat’s reach.
The result helps ease the pain from the Goldminers’ opening round defeat to competition heavyweights Illawarra Hawks at home a week earlier.
Goldminers went on an 18-4 run in their opening quarter in a period of play that would set the tone for the rest of the match.
We started off really strong in this game and that was the key for us.
- Will Cranston-Lown
With a half-time score of 55-29, and a Macarthur side already in serious foul trouble, Goldminers’ big-scoring trio were taking control of the game.
“We knew from the side they had last year that they’d be a smaller team. We were fitter than them and we just ran them off the court and used Matt’s size on the post,” captain Cranston-Lown said.
“We started off really strong in this game and that was the key for us.
“We’ve got Sydney Comets coming up. They beat Illawarra, who beat us in the first week, so we’ve got to be ready to play the full 40 minutes.”
