Zac Forbes, 25, of Lupas Road, Seven Hills made a failed release application before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court on Wednesday.
Forbes was arrested by police on Tuesday after being pulled over in a stolen rental car.
Police allege Forbes came to their attention after Bathurst Highway Patrol identified a stolen Mitsubishi ASX which he was driving in Havannah Street.
An officer attempted to arrest Forbes in relation to the stolen vehicle and Forbes allegedly resisted police with additional police being called to assist.
Whilst attempting to arrest Forbes, it is alleged he allegedly spat on both officers a number of times and kicked them. OC (pepper) spray was used to control the accused and he was eventually handcuffed and secured by officers, who then started a search the car.
Police allege 44.2 grams of ice was located in canisters in the driver’s foot well along with small amounts of amphetamine (speed) and cannabis on the seat.
Numerous scales, packages of small deal bags and mobile phones were also seized.
Forbes was arrested and charged with supplying a prohibited drug greater than the indictable quantity and five counts of possessing a prohibited drug.
He was also charged with driving a conveyance without consent of the owner; driving a vehicle while having never been licensed; assaulting a police officer in execution of duty and resisting an officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail by police on Tuesday.
In court on Wednesday, Forbes’ solicitor James Taylor made a release application on behalf of his client who did not enter a plea in relation to any of the charges.
Noting the serious nature of the charges, Mr Taylor said his client had secured work in a furniture factory but suffered mental health issues and at one stage had an ice addiction but stopped using the drug a year ago.
He also said his client had strong community ties to Bathurst.
But police prosecutor Sergeant Darren Pearce opposed bail saying Forbes was found to be in possession of a significant amount of drugs.
“And his conduct upon arrest was a real concern,” Sgt Pearce said.
Mr Allen refused bail with the matter back before Bathurst Local Court on May 21.
